People who want to study in nations where English is the primary language and means of communication have their English language proficiency assessed through the IELTS (International English Language Testing System).
The IELTS test comes in two types. While IELTS General is used for work and immigration purposes, IELTS Academic is for those who want to pursue higher education overseas.
IELTS tests last for two hours and forty-five minutes, not including breaks.

Structure of IELTS Exam

| Listening | After listening to four recordings of native English speakers, students will respond to a series of questions in writing. one hour | 30 minutes |
| Reading | The 40 questions in the reading section are intended to evaluate a variety of reading abilities. sixty minutes | 60 minutes |
| Academic Writing | Two tasks each in Academic Test and General Training | 60 minutes |
| Speaking | The speaking component assesses students’ use of spoken English. Every test is recorded. | 14 minutes |
Remember:
- There are no gaps between the Listening, Reading, and Writing sections; they are all finished on the same day.
- You can take the speaking test up to a week before or after the other exams.
- The exam lasts two hours and forty-five minutes in total.
